Meet Colton

Ph.D., LPC-MHSP
Director and Professional Counselor

I am Colton Shannon, a professional counselor and founder of the Voice of the Heart Center close to downtown Murfreesboro, TN. I moved to Murfreesboro in 2020 to work closely with Dr. Chip Dodd and Phil Herndon, two of my mentors and friends. Chip’s books on heart and the Spiritual Root System were doorways for me to enter to see and understand my own pain. I began 12 Step work to have a path forward for healing and recovery. The VOTH Center is a new continuation of decades of work by clinicians who started before me.

My family enjoys living in Murfreesboro. I am married with three children. I enjoy studying (I know…), camping, hiking, skiing, fishing, and watching my kids play sports.

I hold a Ph.D. in counselor education and supervision from Trevecca Nazarene University. My research there was in stress, burnout, and social support. I am a licensed professional counselor in Tennessee.

I work hard to hear you out to the best of my ability. I do want to both teach you and listen to how God is working within your heart.
