Dodd’s Paradigm of Recovery: Toxic Shame and Codependency (3 CEs)

  • Voice of the Heart Center 805 South Church Street Murfreesboro, TN, 37130 United States (map)

Join Dr. Chip Dodd and Dr. Colton Shannon at the Voice of the Heart Center for a three hour training (3 CEs available for clinicians).

*This is an event for clinicians and any professional helper (pastors, physicians, lawyers, educators, etc.)*

We believe that identifying and processing feelings advances the healing process. Dodd’s Paradigm of Recovery is a tool to give clarity and direction to your work counseling and other helping arenas. Through the last three decades, the Paradigm of Recovery has been utilized in various treatment centers, private practices, leadership training courses, in parenting cohorts, church groups, and many other settings.

“The Paradigm” is a path that can help any helper give a structure to contain and deal with the struggles of others face.

After introducing the Paradigm in its entirety, we will focus on how, in codependency, humans seek relief from toxic shame in ways that lead to less connection.

In this training you will discover the core principles of Dr. Dodd’s transformative Spiritual Root System and how it can deepen your clinical practice, no matter what modalities you use. You’ll gain practical interventions to help people reconnect with the core feelings, needs, desire, longings, and hopes. Explore the powerful concepts of emotional resonance, regulation, and revision to learn how to harness countertransference to enhance therapeutic outcomes in any setting. Additionally, dive into two groundbreaking studies that underscore the vital role of emotional connection in effective counseling.

Learning Objectives:

  • Participants will examine the toxic shame cycle, adapted from John Bradshaw.

  • Participants will identify the 14 traits of a codependency in a person.

  • Participants will reflect on how toxic shame and codependency have hindered personal and professional relationships through brief meditations, journaling, and short movie clips.

Continuing Education Credit Available: 3 NBCC hours.

To receive credit, participants must sign in, be present throughout, and complete assessment and evaluation at the end of the training. Designated breaks do not count towards CE credits. The Voice of the Heart Center has been approved by NBCC as an Approved Continuing Education Provider, ACEP No. 7658. Programs that do not qualify for NBCC credit are clearly identified. The Voice of the Heart Center is solely responsible for all aspects of the programs.
